At CrossFit Oconee, we take our training just as seriously as we take our athletes. We leave the box everyday with no regrets. Unlike most CrossFit boxes, we have mirrors in our gym for our athletes. We use this as a method of accountability–when you look in the mirror, the only person you can’t lie to is yourself. We train hard, set high standards, push limits, and break barriers. We demand excellence from all of our individuals regardless of fitness experience.

When you need the personal care and attention to reach your goals. Our coaches will lead you to success from the very minute you walk in the door by giving you a strategy session to determine a baseline of fitness, help you set short term and long term goals, then map out your initial program to take all the guess work out of getting into the best shape of your life. If you want to change your life and learn how to stay fit, we can help. This isn’t about loosing a few pounds, this is about taking control of your life, one day at a time. Our trainers will keep you motivated and encouraged to perform at your highest levels while always helping you to “Make Yourself Stronger Than Your Excuses”.

Keep in mind that we want to be more than just a place where you have a membership. We feel strongly about fitness and what it can do in your life and we want to help you get the most out of your time with us.

In 2004 I started training in MMA. I did the “normal” gym thing with lifting weights. I knew there had to be a better way to train for my sport & the “normal” gym wasn’t it. In 2008, I was assigned to a fire station at my fire department, DeKalb County fire. My fire captain at this station was an ex MMA fighter & introduced me to kettlebells. It was a physical fitness game changer. In June 2010, while online reading about some new Kettlebell workouts & learning what a “muscle up” was, I stumbled across the “the main site” Crossfit.com. I looked over every inch of the site & fell in love. This was the type of training I had been looking for all these years! Not only was it great for MMA but also my chosen career as a DeKalb County firefighter. My specialty is with kettlebells, Olympic lifts and pushing people to their physical limits to make them better.

I was born and raised in Oconee, and 38 years later, I’m still here.  It’s home. Always will be.  I graduated from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor’s of Landscape Architecture. I worked in that field for over 12 years.
While working at a 9 to 5,  I also developed a passion for fitness and nutrition.  I have ran marathons, done a bodybuilding competition, lost over 50 lbs, and also put on weight in muscle.  After seeing what fitness and nutrition did for me, it became my main focus for myself and for helping others.
A little over 2 years ago my husband and I were blessed with the adoption of our son. At this point, I quit my full time job with my company and stayed at home with my son.  That is when I decided that I wanted to go back to work doing what I love.  I want a life filled with passion, positivity and family.  Well, here at Crossfit Oconee, that is just what you get!  If you come in these doors,  you will likely see some of my very awesome dance moves and a huge smile on my face.  This is my happy place. My family.

I was born and raised just north of Atlanta in Kennesaw Georgia.  I attended undergrad at the University of West Georgia and graduate school at Kennesaw State University.  I moved to the Athens area in 2013 to accept a job with the University of Georgia working with students in recovery from addiction.  I had always been involved with sports and fitness growing up and joined the first, and so the first thing I did was join the first ‘typical gym’ I found when I moved out to Athens.

Prior to giving CrossFit a try, I had followed body-building programs for over 7 years. If I’m honest, I was occasionally “that guy” that would make fun of people doing CrossFit. During those 7 years, I would find cutting programs online and follow their lifting and dieting programs. I would see results, however they rarely lasted more than a week. I would lose weight, but quickly gain it back. I started to get frustrated with the results not lasting and honestly got really bored with the routines I was doing in the gym. I needed something new.

Around April of 2016 I decided to let go of my previous bias against CrossFit and give it a try. I mean, I would see pictures of CrossFit athletes online and thought, it’s obviously working for them, why not? I called around to a couple different boxes in the area and was most impressed with the response I got from CrossFit Oconee. This is not to down the other locations, I just felt more welcomed by Oconee’s owner Payton.

I tried the first ‘free class’ and I was intrigued. I decided to make a commitment and give it a try for 6 months. As I started to show up regularly I began to love the workouts. More importantly though, I began to love the community of people I was working out with. I WAS HOOKED!!

I took my CFL1 class in June of 2017 and began coaching at CrossFit Oconee shortly after.  What I love about coaching is being able to help others reach their goals.  I love meeting people exactly where they are at and helping them start, and more importantly finish, their goals.  Then setting new goals and crushing those!!  I believe fitness looks different for everyone, it’s not a one size fits all and it has the ability to HUGELY improve their lives!  I look forward to helping people improve their lives every time I come into the gym!

I am a Watkinsville native and 2003 graduate of Oconee County High School. I received my Bachelor’s in Business Administration from Shorter College in Rome, GA where I also played football and interned as the Strength and Conditioning coach. Throughout my life, I have always been active in sports, from basketball, baseball and soccer, but football was my life. After my college years of football eligibility ran out, I had to find something active to fill the void. After moving back home to Watkinsville in 2012, I heard a lot about CrossFit and decided to try it out for the community aspect sounded much better than joining a globo-gym alone. After my first workout, I was hooked. The community and friendly competition isn’t seen anywhere else in the fitness world- CrossFit doesn’t discriminate against previous injuries, talent, especially age and it’s amazing to experience. I compete, teach CrossFit classes, personal training, as well as personal training for kids and I could not love it more. I have recently made CrossFit my full time career, and I hope to continue to better myself and many others through CrossFit.

I am a native Athenian. I graduated and played college baseball at the University of West Georgia. I live in Athens working as a Account Executive with Guardian Home Care.

I’ve has always been into exercising and into anything active that will allow him to eat another donut. I was introduced to CrossFit by a friend after being tired of doing the “same old thing” at the monster gyms in Athens. The competition, unpredictability of workouts, and the community that CrossFit promotes are the things that revealed to me that this is how I wanted to stay fit.

I am very easy to pick out of a crowd. Often wearing anything neon, bouncing around the gym, and screaming out “GOOD JOB, 5:30!!! WOOOO” after workouts.

“You don’t have to be the best. Just be your best.”

I was born and raised in Oconee County and I graduated from North Oconee High School in 2009. I have since earned an associates degree in drafting and an associates degree in mechanical engineering. Growing up I didn’t play a lot of sports. I played a few years of rec baseball and soccer but after I started middle school I stop being involved in sports. I didn’t do anything active during my middle school or high school years. In the spring of 2010 my older brother convinced me to go to the gym with him and after that I was hooked. I did your typical gym routine for about 3 years, mostly weight lifting and body building type workouts. In late 2012 my older brother started working out at a crossfit gym and tried to convince me to join. At first I wasn’t sure about it because I enjoyed my “normal” gym workouts and I am not one who likes change. That following Christmas my mom got me a groupon to try out Crossfit Oconee. I waited a week before the groupon expired before I finally went and tried it. I fell in love with crossfit after one class. Crossfit changed everything I thought I knew about working out and fitness. Crossfit and Crossfit Oconee have changed my life for the better. I am fitter, stronger, and faster than I have ever been before. I don’t see myself ever going to another gym. How much Crossfit Oconnee means to me is hard to put into words. They make such an impact on everyone that comes into the gym and I have made made so many good friends from being a part of this awesome community. I can’t thank them enough for everything they’ve done for me and all the other members!

We can help with that! Come in and meet with our knowledgeable and caring staff and let us talk to you about how we can help you meet your goals and have fun doing it.
